This week’s A group cycle headed for the Glen of Aherlow to test the Tour of the Galtees route for our upcoming fundraising cycle. Our B group headed on our 50km fundraising cycle route.

First Spin of 2012 – Sunday, February 12

Today, the club saw its first day out of 2012. The A-route headed to Ballygiblin-Ballyporeen-Burncourt and back via the main road to Kilbehenny. The shorter B-route headed to Ballygiblin-Cooladerry-New Line and back to Kilbehenny.

Wednesday Club Cycle – August 17 2011

Wednesday evening’s outing involved two cycles of similar distance, one going the the Kilcoran motorway roundabout and the other going to Ballyporeen via Ballygiblin and back by Burncourt. The second of the two routes is show below.

The next event for the club is a family fun cycle on Saturday evening as part of the Kilbehenny Potato Festival. It is open to anyone who wants to attend. We leave the hall in Kilbehenny at 6pm sharp for Jackson’s Pub in Skeheenarinky before returning to the hall for refreshments. The club will then attend the Village Cailín night in the Three Counties bar afterwards to support one of our own members who is taking part in the competition.

Wednesday Cycle and Meeting – July 27

For the Wednesday evening cycle, we headed from the hall in Kilbehenny to Mitchelstown, on through Ballygiblin cross to Ballyporeen and back to Kilbehenny, roughly 27.5km altogether. The route is shown below.

At the meeting afterwards, attended by all club members, it was decided that we start a third cycle for those members who want to go the extra distance at a slighty higher pace. This cycle will run every Saturday evening, leaving the hall at 6pm. This Saturday, the route is going to be Kilbehenny-Cahir-Ballylooby-Clogheen-Ballyporeen-Ballygiblin-Kilbehenny – roughly 54km to start off, with the intention of adding 10km to the distance every week.

A list of upcoming events was also included in the meeting, with a busy August and September in store. Our club outing was also discussed – it was eventually decided that we will be going to West Cork for a day and night away in mid-October where we’ll have a cycle around the amazing landscape during the day and have the craic afterwards in the evening!

After the terrible weather over the last few weeks, Wednesday evening turned out to be perfect for cycling. A few members decided to opt for the shorted B-route, while the majority decided to go for the longer, more hilly route, which is shown below.

Wednesday Evening Cycle – July 13 2011

The club’s Wednesday evening A-route cycle took us through Ballyporeen, turning left, up by the mushroom farm about 4km from Clogheen. After an early puncture at the community hall before starting and another just before coming off the Ballyporeen-Clogheen road, we made it back to the hall about an hour and a half later. The full route is shown below.

Presentation to Mike Jones after Tesco Bag Pack

The club’s recent bag pack in Tesco in Mitchelstown turned out to be a huge success with a large amount of money being collected. The club would like to thank everybody who supported us and also to the people who were roped-in to help with the packing.

A third of the money will now go to Mike Jones, who completed the Pfizer Cork to Galway cycle a few weeks ago in aid of the Chernobyl Children’s Trust. A third will also go to Special Friends in Kilbehenny and Mitchelstown and the remaining third will go to the club. Below is a photo of the presentation to Mike Jones of the money raised. We wish Mike the best in his travels as he goes back to Australia today.

Sunday Club Cycle – June 26 2011

We enjoyed perfect weather conditions today as we set out to Cahir and back, some of us going the extra bit to the Tipperary road roundabout. After stopping in Cahir House Hotel for some refreshments, we headed back towards Kilbehenny and faced into a relatively strong breeze. We were greeted by the company of members of the Mitchelstown Galtee Wheelers from the Kilcoran roundabouts, whom we stayed with until Kilbehenny.
